Founded in 1891 on the Onweiler farm and originally named Hunter, the town was renamed Meridian in 1893 due to its location on the Boise Meridian. The introduction of the Settlers’ Irrigation Ditch in 1892 transformed the arid land into fertile farmland, leading to the city’s incorporation in 1903.
